Number Patterns

Definition of Number Pattern
A set (list) of numbers that perform certain series (pattern) like addition or multiplication repeatedly is termed as number pattern.
  • In a number pattern, the numbers change in the same way each time
  • Patterns are repetitive sequences
  • Can be found in nature, shapes, events, sets of numbers, etc.
  • Examples : geometric designs on quilts or tiles, the number sequence, seeds in a sunflower, snowflakes, etc.

Rule of Number Pattern
A pattern rule tells us how to build a pattern.

Here is a number pattern :
The numbers can be added, subtracted or multiplied.

Types of Number Pattern
  • Triangular/ Triangle Numbers
  • Square Numbers
  • Cube Numbers

Example 1
By adding another row of dots and counting all the dots we can find the next number of the sequence :

The Triangular Number Sequence is generated from a pattern of dots which form a triangle.
But it is easier to use this rule :
